Mark Oldfield

Teaching and vocal animateur

Mark has a passion for singing and an enthusiasm for teaching. He firmly believes that everyone can sing and provides encouragement and strategies to facilitate this.

Mark has a thriving private practice in London and a proven track record of teaching in several institutions.

He has taught students of all ages and abilities; many of his students have gone on to music conservatoires around the world, whilst others enjoy singing to their optimum in choirs and ensembles in Britain.

His expertise and experience, gained from his career as an opera and concert singer, inform his teaching. This is underpinned by ongoing professional development courses in vocal pedagogy, physiology for singing and performance psychology. During the 2020 lockdown Mark used the time to consolidate his experience and research in singing to write a submission for a Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy. The FHEA acknowledges his teaching work with a diverse student body.

Musical Directors of choirs and ensembles often invite Mark to provide vocal coaching to support their creative vision. Mark has a dedicated website, with details and testimonials about this work. www.vocalcraftwork.com

Arts organisations frequently invite Mark to act as animateur to facilitate creative projects. He draws upon his wide experience in community arts and past role as Creative Director of Workshops for Streetwise Opera, working with people who have experienced homelessness.
